King County GOP leaders hosted a Zoom meeting for King County PCOs on the evening of March 2.
About 80 PCOs attended the meeting. It was hosted by KCGOP Chair Joshua Freed, and featured presentations from KCGOP Executive Director Jeff Harvey; Washington State Republican Party Political Director Peyton LaFerla; and NRA-ILA Field Organizer Jesse Greening. Also present was Paige Thibaut, the KCGOP’s new PCO Director.
Harvey spoke about major updates to the KCGOP’s website. The updates include a way for people to contact their local District Chair while protecting the privacy of those District Chairs.
Other features of the redesigned website include a list of all voting precincts which do not have a PCO assigned to them and a simple contact form that can be easily filled out by people who wish to apply to become PCOs. The previous application method required filling out a paper form.
LaFerla’s presentation contained information about the WSRP’s plan for strengthening local parties at all levels. The state party’s plan involves investing resources in training PCOs and other GOP volunteers and to recruit candidates for local races, such as for local school boards. Such training will include educating PCOs and volunteers about voter registration drives and Get Out the Vote campaigns.
Greening gave a report about the NRA-ILA’s recent activities. These activities included working to make sure that firearms dealers were able to remain open during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Greening, the NRA-ILA helped to accomplish this goal in 44 states.
Greening also related the details of the NRA’s recent bankruptcy filing. He stated that the NRA filed for bankruptcy in order to enable themselves to reincorporate in Texas. They were previously incorporated in New York, and wanted to leave, but New York’s laws prevent businesses from easily leaving the state.
Green said that this led the NRA to file bankruptcy as the only viable option for leaving New York given the circumstances. He also mentioned that the NRA is in fact in stable financial condition.
The purpose of the meeting was to educate attending PCOs about new resources being made available to them by party leaders.
Harvey’s presentation was concerned with the new resources themselves, while LaFerla discussed the planned implementation of those resources. The meeting was concluded about fifteen minutes ahead of schedule.
